Example calculation.

Financial impact of improved feed conversion.

Feed conversion (FCR) determines how much feed is needed to raise a broiler to its final weight. Small improvements have a direct impact on profitability.

Typical ranges:

  • Good feed conversion: 1.05 – 1.10

  • Poor feed conversion: ~1.20

So as you can see, even a small improvement makes a big difference.

Example calculation

Improvement case: 5 points in feed conversion (0.05)

  1. Value per point: ± € 0.0075 per animal

  2. Total improvement per animal: € 0.0375

  3. Now applied to a standard poultry house:

  4. 90,000 broilers per cycle → € 0.0375 × 90,000 = € 3,375 per cycle

  5. Seven cycles per year → € 3,375 × 7 = € 23,625 per year

What this means: a relatively small improvement in feed conversion can result in:

€ 20,000+ additional profit per year, per house

Conclusion:

Small improvements at floor level create significant financial impact at farm level.
